071205 ::: Site re-designed and more content added. Some sections (discography, etc) are currently offline but these will gradually become available again.

071125 ::: Some videos including Box Set Go can be found on YouTube.

071120 ::: Gigography and scrapbook section added to the site.

071120 ::: "Take Your Time" t-shirt spotted on eBay!

070414 ::: An interview with John Pennington (mix engineer for The High) can be found here. Some interesting bits about The High and Martin Hannett - well worth a read!

060415 ::: If you haven't visited I Hate Music yet, make sure you do - this highly entertaining weblog has been going for six years and is essential reading for all music fans. Anyway, I have to apologise to all of you, because it somehow slipped me by, that The High were featured a few years ago - you can find the article here.

060414 ::: There is some renewed interest in Martin Hannett: a film/documentary and not only one but TWO books about Hannett's life and work appear to be in production. A new compilation, "Zero" is out now (sadly not featuring The High this time), and there are one or two new websites to be launched soon. In the meantime, William Alberque's original Martin Hannett website is still the best resource out there. Unfortunately, only an out-of-date version seems to be online nowadays (William, can we expect any updates to the site anytime soon?).

060414 ::: A word of warning... Some of you might have seen the name "The H!gh" in recent gig listings. To clarify, this is NOT... I repeat ... this is NOT The High you know and love. They are a new band completely unrelated to the band that is the subject of this website. To confuse matters even more, they seem to be from the Manchester area (Rochdale, specifically).

060413 ::: Apologies for the lack of updates recently. I have a slight update on current activities, however: Andy Couzens of The High is still involved in producing bands - one of his latest productions is for The Fremen, one of the first signings to the resurrected Thin Line label.

040713 ::: John Matthews speaks! Biography section updated with new contributions from John, talking about The High and other bands he has been involved with. Thanks to everybody who sent in questions for John.

040223 ::: The album (see below) is out now and the single has been given a re-mix treatment by Differnet. See www.pomonauk.com for details.

040203 ::: The new Black September album (featuring John Matthews - see below) is now due for release on 23rd February 2004. A sneak preview, exclusive to this site, the first track: "Time To Leave".

031120 ::: All Black September (and other Pomona) releases are now available for international orders through the label's new website www.pomonauk.com For those of you who didn't know (because you didn't read the news below), Black September is John Matthew's new band, and he sings on all tracks on their new album, You Can Do Anything If You Set Your Mind To It. The lengthy Why Are Churches Shaped Like Rockets? has been selected as a radio promo single off the album.

031011 ::: The general release date of You Can Do Anything If You Set Your Mind To It (see below) is January 2004. However, UK customers who can't wait, will be pleased to know that they can order exclusive advance copies direct from Pomona Sounds: "We've actually got finished copies in now. They're available by sending £10 to Pomona at 36 Bridgegate, Hebden Bridge, HX7 8EX. Cheques made to 'Pomona'"

031006 ::: The release of You Can Do Anything If You Set Your Mind To It has apparently been put back to January 2004. More information about this soon.

030810 ::: You Can Do Anything If You Set Your Mind To It is now available to pre-order online from UK online stores, and also direct from Pomona Sounds. Release date not yet confirmed.

030806 ::: You Can Do Anything If You Set Your Mind To It by Black September featuring John Matthews is to be released at the end of October. Details of how to pre-order the album (with delivery worldwide) will be announced here soon.

030708 ::: John Matthews has just joined acclaimed Manchester based band BLACK SEPTEMBER as lead singer, since founding member Geoff Read left. John is likely to have contributed vocals to their second album You Can Do Anything If You Set Your Mind To It due for release later this year. The new Black September line up is: John Matthews (vocals), Mark Black (guitar), Christian Brett (ex-War Poets, guitar), Karen Leatham (ex-The Fall, bass) and Miles Moss (ex-Killing Stars, drums). Recognise the band name? Well, Black September was, along with the bizarre The Witchdoctors Of Zimbabwe, one of the suggestions when Joy Division in 1980 were trying to find a new band name, post-Ian Curtis. However, they decided to call themselves New Order instead.. Anyway, see the discography section for a track listing for the new Black September album. Information on where to buy, will follow.. John has also teamed up again with The High guitarist Andy Couzens. Their new project is apparently called ONE SUMMER and a couple of new songs have been written. Details to follow..

030707 ::: Another exclusive: in the sounds section of the site, you can now watch an early live performance by the band. Included is a rare live take of the track Electric Cello which is an early version of Rather Be Marsanne.

030701 ::: The site has moved to a new server. Our new (temporary?) home is at www.kolumn.co.uk/thehigh - thanks to kolumn communications for hosting the site.

020124 ::: The discography page is updated with current status of availability of the recordings.

010915 ::: The biography page is updated with a brand new interview, where Andy Couzens tells us about the history of the band. MP3s no longer available on the sounds page, because Geocities does not allow them. Hopefully I will find a new home for the MP3s at some point, watch this space. You can still download the Real Audio files, unfortunately the quality is not as good.

001121 ::: Listen to The High! Sounds section added to the site, with two songs available for download. The site gets a new look.

000722 ::: Flag Of Convenience will release a "best of" package in August, 2000. The album is called "Secret Public Years" and will feature 21 tracks from 1981 to 1989. Flag Of Convenience was the solo project of Buzzcocks guitarist Steve Diggle, occasionally with Chris Goodwin on drums & Andy Couzens on guitar.

000531 ::: Site launched
